In the Western Christian artistic tradition, the Sacred Heart is a visual metaphor for Christ’s burning thirst for souls. In their touching version of the subject, George and Polly integrate these traditional themes with elements of the equally time-honored Ecce Homo motif to produce a powerful statement of self-emptying love and divine vulnerability. The Savior’s flaming heart and pleading eyes emerge from baroque blackness, reflecting the personal, interior nature of the spiritual encounter to which the viewer is invited.
Plaque prints are reproduced on 3/8”-thick wood composite, with a glossy frontside finish, a black outer bevel, and a routed keyhole slot on the back. They are ready-to-hang and are also ideal for display on a tabletop stand (not included).
