Best known as the parents of the beloved St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Louis and Zélie-Marie Martin were the first husband and wife to be canonized together. George and Polly’s powerful portrait of holy spouses captures their physical likenesses while highlighting the profound spirituality that animated their union. Although their marital affection is evident, the couple’s gaze is directed not toward each other but toward a heavenly reality, indicating that their mutual love orients them toward something beyond themselves. Meanwhile, the rose motif and Carmelite crest in the wallpaper pattern allude to the way that their unassuming piety manifested itself in the exemplary lives of their children.
Plaque prints are reproduced on 3/8”-thick wood composite, with a glossy frontside finish, a black outer bevel, and a routed keyhole slot on the back. They are ready-to-hang and are also ideal for display on a tabletop stand (not included).
