The icon of Mary, Therese of Lisieux, and Damien Molokai at the Holy Mass is inspired by of Fra Angelico’s style. The icon is an expression of the contemplative and apostolic nature of the church. It also reveals the importance of the harmony between Holy men and women seeking to live out their vocation by inspiring one another to live for the Gospel. St. Therese’s greatest desire was to be a missionary of love for all people. As a patron of missionaries, she would have prayed unknowingly for St. Damien’s mission to an abandoned leper colony on the Hawaiian island of Molokai where he sacrificed his life for the gospel.
