Clare Counts

Vodokschi

This painting is of a special dream to have a Eucharistic Procession on Galveston Island. The title, “Vodokschi,” is the same as the name for the Byzantine Blessing of the Waters that takes place on Epiphany (Or Theophany, as the feast may also be called). The tradition constitutes of a solemn blessing of the nearest body of water in remembrance of His earthly baptism and in imitation of the earth-sanctifying nature of His Incarnation. Maybe someday the Gulf of Mexico will be blessed in this very way!

Counts, Clare. Vodokschi.
Acrylic on Canvas Paper. 18″ X 34″.
