“Centonibus,” Latin for quilt or patchwork, is a nod towards not just the geometric composition of the work, but to the importance of the Blessed Virgin in the history of America. Much of American culture can be summarized in the folk art form of quilting: a time of community, a way of repurposing materials, an incorporation of legends and traditions, and a practical nature which serves the family. This artwork is a sense of gratitude: gratitude for our American heritage, for culture lived-out, and for our Mother, Mary.
