Clare Counts

Alfombra

This piece is named for the ornate tapestries and designs that cover the ground in preparation for a Eucharistic Procession. Mary, Mother of God, serves this same role in a twofold manner. Not only did she bring Christ to us in a physical manner, starting at the Annunciation, she continues to sanctify our offerings, making them more dear as gifts to her Son. Some of the patterns are inspired by Ottoman tapestries, a culture which, after being baptized through the conquests of the Crusades, greatly influenced the art of Spain, and consequently Mexico.

Counts, Clare. Alfombra.
Acrylic on Canvas. 8″ X 10″.
Available for USD $80.
