Caroline Furlong

Jesus Christ, Our Savior

Jesus Christ, our Savior, holds a scroll of the Gospel in His left hand and makes the sign of blessing with His right hand.  His blue outer garment symbolizes His divine nature and His red inner garment, his humanity.  The inscription ICXC is the abbreviation of Jesus Christ as it was written in Greek.  The letters inscribed in His halo are also “the One Who is,” or “the Living One” and are a reference to the Lord’s declaration to Moses “I AM that I AM”.

Furlong, Caroline. Jesus Christ, Our Savior. Egg tempera on traditional wood icon board, 23k gold leaf. 14”x11”. USD $1200.
